The Washburn World Languages department teaches languages through the TPRS Storytelling method. This method allows students to learn French in a way that is closest to the way they learned their first language—by listening and understanding. We read, tell, act out and create fun stories in class. Grammar is learned in the context of natural language. Students are asked to focus on understanding language before they have to write or speak. By the end of just one year of language study, students will be able to read and write their own stories and speak in sentences in French! With these new language skills, we will work together toward understanding and respecting cultural differences.
You will receive comprehensible input through a variety of activities: Reading, listening, asking and answering questions, stories, songs, skits, videos, TPR (Total Physical Response), dance, games and more. In this class, I'm going to teach to your long-term memory. You will be speaking French forever!
