The ACE Mentor Program of America mission is to promote careers in the Architecture-Construction-Engineering industry and provide high school students opportunities for career discovery, scholarships, and interactions with industry professionals. ACE has been at Washburn High School for the past few years.

National  Website:  http://www.acementor.org/
State Website:  http://acementor.org/index.php/affiliates/minnesota/twin-cities/about-us/

We meet most every tuesday in room 119b (feebs room) at 3:30 to 5:00.

The goal for each year is to develop a response based on the project program requirements. This includes site selection, site history research, determining what improvements will be designed for the site, designing the building floor plan and exterior elevations, designing the site exterior improvements and circulation, and developing the construction cost estimate.  The proposal and design is then presented in front of the other school groups within the chapter with a chance to go to the national competition in Washington, D.C. Past projects include a temporary classroom, renovating the school library, and a community health clinic. This year students are challenged to come up with a creative use for a historical site that emphasizes its historical roots and serves the community long term. There are also two field trips per year to construction sites, design firms, and manufacturing facilities.

Notes from last years final presentation.

ACE Twin Cities held their final presentations at the U of MN and 8 schools presented.  Washburn HS was up second in the lineup - Anna, Brynn, Charlie, Connor, Erik and Sophie, were all in attendance and Mr. Le Feber. Also, we were able to meet several parents of the students who were all very enthusiastic about the ACE program. Thank you to the parents for coming!

Washburn gave a great presentation and responses to the judges questions and finished just in time (2 seconds shy of the time limit!) despite a brief computer malfunction. The students worked very hard throughout the year and in the 11th hour of this project and we appreciate your hard work! I hope that all of the students enjoyed the evening and that it left a positive impression on the students of the ACE program and our industry. I look forward to the presentation program each year and the students seem to always exceed our expectations. There were several great ideas and projects presented last night and I know the judges struggled to select the winners. Washburn High School was awarded 2nd place overall and we are very proud of all of you for this achievement! We hope that all of the students enjoyed the ACE program this year and will be back next year!
