Meghan Bot-Miller, Spanish Teacher
Valdivia, Chile

I had the opportunity to teach Spanish and French at Washburn as a long-term substitute teacher during the 2015-2016 school year, as I was completing a Master’s in Teaching at the University of St. Thomas. Something about the energy of the staff and students convinced me Washburn would make a wonderful professional home – I was thrilled to return to Washburn as a Spanish teacher for the full 16-17 year.

When I was in high school, I thought Spanish was the only language of interest to me. I studied it during college, spending time in Peru, Chile, Nicaragua and Costa Rica as an undergraduate student, and returned to Chile after college, where I completed a Master’s in Contemporary Hispanic

Kaunas, Lithuania
American Literature at the Universidad Austral, in Valdivia. When I was “forced” to study Portuguese for further graduate studies, however, I discovered a love of language learning that just keeps growing. This past summer I was a student again, studying Lithuanian, my husband’s first language, at Vilniaus Universitetas.

Teaching is a way of life I joyfully choose, and it is my hope that students may experience the joy of learning in Spanish class.

This year I am teaching Spanish 2 and IB Spanish 4. Please contact me at with any questions or concerns. Thanks!
