Lucia Renikoff commits to a Minnesota college

Lucia Renikoff, Mpls. Washburn and North Tartan guard, veteran of two state tournament appearances, committed to St. Thomas and coach Ruth Sinn yesterday. Long rumored as a possible D1 recruit, Renikoff instead joins a steady stream of D1-caliber players to the Tommies (or should we say the Ruthies), which is of course why St. Thomas is a perennial MIAC champion and national D3 contender.

In the class of 2015 alone, Renikoff is the second point guard to commit to St. Thomas. Sofia Chadwick of Farmington committed to the Tommies earlier this summer.

A month ago, Renikoff said of the recruiting process, “It’s been good. It’s been fun looking at different places and seeing what I might want in a college. I have a couple more places to go, to see the college before I make a decision.”

A year ago she said, “My dream is to play basketball in college. Saying that, I have a lot of work to do. I would like to go to a big city school that has good academics and good sports.”

“I’ve heard from 3 D1 coaches,” she said, though she declined to name names, “and a couple D2 and D3 schools. I don’t have a certain list yet but,” she said she likes the big city.
