Course Overview

Mrs. Duren will be teaching 4 Sections of Physical Science and one section of Science Concepts.  Physical Science students will explore the basic principles of Chemistry and Physics and discover how they apply to life and earth science. Students should be prepared for hands on labs, activities, simulations and group work.  A composition notebook will be required for this course. Please use class webpage for weekly assignments and required readings.


Personal Background

Mrs. Duren received her undergraduate degree from Luther College with a major in Theatre/Dance, minor in Biology and Pre Med emphasis.  Before pursuing her Masters in Life Science Education from Western Governors University she lived in England.  In Northeast, England she worked as a youth worker at a drop in center serving youth ages 13- 25 in areas of support and advice around homelessness, teen pregnancy, addiction, post-secondary mentoring and bullying.  Returning to the states Mrs. Duren spent three years as a youth director in Robbinsdale and a dance teacher in St. Paul.  Mrs. Duren is also a registered Emergency Medical Technician. Prior to teaching at Washburn Mrs. Duren taught Chemistry, Biology and Anatomy at Edison High School and Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists.  When not teaching Mrs. Duren enjoys spending time with her son and husband.
