"Treat them greatly and they will show themselves great."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hello Millers! This is my third year as a resource teacher at Washburn, and I have been teaching in the Minneapolis School district for eleven years. This year I will be teaching English Strategies to 11th and 12th graders, and will be collaborating in College Prep Writing with Ms. Pederson. The University of St. Thomas is where I completed my master's in Special Education, Specific Learning Disabilities, and my undergrad work was done at Minnesota State University (then Mankato State University), in writing and art.

My draw to the teaching profession starts with the belief that we all have multiple intelligences, and all have brilliance within. When working with students, I get to see this brillance reveal itself.  I really enjoy the challenge of bringing out the best in each student, or rather, creating the conditions so that all students arrive at their "best" in their own way.

I can be reached by e-mail katherine.flaherty@mpls.k12.mn.us, or phone 612-668-8506. My shared office is 312A, and I am available before and after school, if pre-arranged. I look forward to another great year at Washburn! Go Millers!
