IB Diploma Requirements

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme

 

IB Diploma Requirements – conferred by International Baccalaureate:

  • Six IB Courses: Take courses and exams in six different subjects: at least three Higher Level and the rest Standard Level, one from each area.
  • Extended Essay – an essay on a topic of special interest, usually one of the student’s six Diploma Programme subjects, under the guidance of a supervisor. This leads to an essay of no more than 4,000 words which is completed in year 2 and is externally assessed.
  • Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – a course designed to explore the nature of knowledge across the disciplines, encouraging an appreciation of other perspectives.
  • Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) Programme - 150 hours - Candidates are involved in and write their reflections about artistic pursuits, sports, and community service work.  

 

WASHBURN IB MEDALLION REQUIREMENTS – conferred by Minneapolis Public Schools:

  • Take IB courses and IB exams in two different subject areas over junior and senior years.  These can be either HL or SL exams.  
  • Successfully complete TOK.
  • Successfully complete 75 hours of CAS (creativity, action, service) 

 

THE “IB CERTIFICATE” – conferred by International Baccalaureate:

  • Students who sit for examinations for one or more DP courses receive the “Diploma Programme (DP) Courses Results,” commonly known as the “IB Certificate”.
