CURRICULAR OFFERINGS
Symphonic Band -- offered to 9th grade students who wish to continue their study of band music and improve their skills to perform at an advanced level. Students should have been enrolled in a band course during the previous year. Music studied in this class includes a wide variety of musical styles and periods to enhance the students' knowledge of music and performing skills. Students grow as educated music performers, both individually and collectively.
Concert Band -- Students with some playing experience are eligible for this course. Various styles of band literature and difficulty of music are used to develop individual and group performance skills. Emphasis is placed on proper breathing, tone quality, intonation, articulation, development of range, and music and reading skills.
Concert Orchestra -- open to all students in grades 9 – 12 who play violin, viola, cello or the double bass. Proper technique, ear training skills, music theory, and appropriate rehearsal/performance disciplines will be taught and maintained within the group. Students participating must be available for public performances, solo and ensemble adjudicated events, and occasional after school rehearsals.
Jazz Band -- This group studies and performs a variety of literature, including swing, jazz, and rock. Each year, the group performs at concerts, adjudicated festivals, and various civic occasions. Special emphasis is placed on developing improvisation skills and ensemble playing. Membership requires a high degree of musical skill and personal discipline.
Drumline -- This group meets through the Connections Schedule and is for all students. Emphasis is on learning and fostering percussion skills.
