15 of the top 60 take a loss, but only 5 drop out of the top 15

16 of our top 60 (15 in each class) last week suffered a loss, but only 5 dropped out of the top 15 for its class. And, an equal number (5), either moved down or moved up by three slots of more. The big movers are:

Mpls. Washburn (18-5) who moved up from #15AAA to #10 after beating then-#10A Holy Angels. Washburn is now on a 5-game winning streak. Mpls. Edison and Mpls. Southwest were the other two wins last week, and that enabled the Millers to take uncontested first play in the Mpls. City Conference.

Lucia Renikoff recently scored the 1,000th point of her career, and junior wing Shai’Anye Wesley has stepped up to become a second reliable scoring threat at 11 ppg on 54 percent shooting.

Eden Prairie (15-8) moved into the top 15 at #12AAAA after surprising St. Micheal-Albertville 66-64. The Eagles have now won 6 in a row. Senior Emma Boehm has continued to be the top scoring threat at 16 ppg on 50 percent shooting, including 66 points in 3 games last week.

Simley (15-8), returns to the Top 15 after a long break (since the Spartans started 1-4 and 2-5). Of course, Abby Kain started out the year with a foot injury, but it’s healed and she’s in game shape and that makes the world of difference. And Katie Atkins has increased her productivity, too. The Spartans had a 10 game win streak, the lost 3. Now they’ve won 3 straight. They’re #12AAA.

#1

• Hopkins, 21-1 after beating Park Center and Edina. Park Center gave Hopkins a tussle, losing 83-69, but Hopkins crushed Edina after Jill Morton got into some early foul trouble. The final there was 78-38 but it was 73-24 at one point.

• Orono, 21-1 after beating Holy Family. Senior guard Kiera Nelson leads 4 players averaging in double figures at 14 ppg.

• Dover-Eyota, 22-1 after beating Wabasha-Kellogg

• And Ada-Borup, 21-0 after beating Waubun and Lake Park-Audubon by an average score of 76-17. Ada has 5 players averaging in double figures

Biggest Losers

Rochester Mayo, Waseca, Grand Rapids, Eden Valley-Watkins and Cherry all dropped out of the top 10 after their losses of a week ago.

Chatfield dropped 5 slots in the Class AA rating, from #3 to #8. Holy Angels dropped four slots in the AAA ratings. Roseville and Eagan dropped 3 slots in Class AAAA.
