State Tournament

Hey all! Here are some resources to understand how the competition will work. We will try to meet once as a whole team (if we can!) before Monday, March 13th to clear up any questions and make sure we all know what to expect, but here's a bunch of information to help you plan ahead.

  • The first document below (State Tournament Topics) contains all the topics for each of the events. The State Tournament questions will be a mix of topics from throughout the season. So check out the topics and look back at each meet's resources to help you recall important things for each event.
  • The 2017 State Tournament Schedule contains a condensed document of the schedule put out by the Math League, along with rules for the tournament. It's important to note that Events A, C, and D are no calculator events, as is the Invitational Event for Max.
  • The Team Contest document contains more in depth logistics of the team competition. Check it out if you'd like to see more about how things will work.
  • The Invitational Event and Math Bowl document contains information about the individual event that Max will be competing in. This will contain topics and problems from all events from throughout the season. Again, this event is no calculator.
  • The State Tournament Timeline document again contains the schedule that I gave to each of you (updated on 2/27 to delete the Pi contest). We'll meet at Washburn in the morning and go from there.
  • The Permission Slip you should have received from me. Please make sure you get this signed and return it to me when I see you next, or you can scan and email it to me at jay.selvaag@mpls.k12.mn.us. I definitely need this to be returned before we go as we will not have a bus and need recognition from your parents that you will be driving yourself or riding with another student.
  • The last document (2015-16 State Tournament Events) contains the problems given for each of the individual events, the team event, and the Invitational Event last year. Use these as an example of what State Tournament questions will look like.
