Help Eliminate Violence Against Women - Dec. 4-10

United Nations

On Thurs, Dec. 4, in an effort to raise awareness and spread information about violence against women, many students will be painting bruises and blood on their faces. They will go through their school day normally and distribute statistics and how to support the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women which is celebrated November 25th until December 10, 2014.

At lunches this Friday, Dec. 5 until next Wed, Dec. 10 we will be selling orange (the color associated with this cause) food, bracelets, and buttons. All proceeds will go to Casa de Esperanza (The House of Hope), a non-profit organization that provides support to Hispanic women and families that have suffered from abuse.

Additionally, on Wednesday, December 10th, there will be a screening of In The Time of The Butterflies 3:15-5pm in room 207. All are welcome to participate! It is the story of the Mirabal sisters who were assassinated November 25th, 1960, which is why the United Nations chose November 25th as the first day of the yearly campaign to end violence against women. Food will be provided and donations will be accepted, all proceeds will go to Casa de Esperanza as well.
