Latinx Opportunity Fair - Dec. 10

Washburn High School is hosting their 2nd annual Latinx Opportunity Fair on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 6-8PM in the Auditorium. The purpose of this event is to connect our 9-12 Latinx students and their families to the many opportunities available to them in school and in the community. 

 

This event will connect our families to college/financial access, job training, academic and immigration resources. The following local community organizations will be attending and will be presenting in Spanish.

Services Offered

CLUES - Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio

Youth in Action Program (¡YA!)- guides Latino high school students in academic support and college preparation through Individual Coaches.

Bridge to Your Future classes- free, nine-week career trainings in healthcare, construction and customer service fields. Participants focus on developing skills and get certifications they need for higher paying jobs.

Genesys Works

Offers paid corporate internships at a top Twin Cities companies Students will earn $12,000 and get college and career support. Students apply as juniors, complete summer training between junior and senior year and complete a twelve-month internship their senior year.

Goodwill-Easter Seals

An employment training program that helps individuals develop and expand skills in Automotive Services, Banking & Finance, Construction, Electronics Soldering and Printing Industry Essentials.

Minneapolis College

Learn what is required and how to apply to Minneapolis College. Students will also learn about the Star Scholars Program, a college scholarship program covering the cost of college for Dreamers.

Normandale Community College

Learn what is required and how to apply to Normandale Community College. Students will hear from an Admissions Representative who supports Latinx students at Normandale.

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows the 10th, 11th and 12th grade students to earn college credit while still in high school for free. With PSEO, courses are offered on the campus of the college.

Prepare + Prosper

Offers free tax preparation and financial services. Services are provided by IRS-certified volunteers who are passionate about taxes and finances. We can do federal and Minnesota returns, including property tax refunds for renters and homeowners.

Project Success

Project Success is a youth-development organization that works with Washburn students through goal-setting workshops in English classrooms, theater experiences, and free college tours.

Step Up

Step Up connects Mpls youth ages 14-21 with training and paid summer internships at top local employers.

Wallin Education Partners Scholarship

Wallin Education Partners offer scholarship winners financial aid, individualized advising and effective partnerships. They offer a 2-Year Scholarship Program (up to $6,000 over two years) for graduating seniors pursuing a 2-year program and a 4-Year Scholarship Program (up to $16,000 over four years) for graduating seniors pursuing a 4-year degree program at one of our eligible colleges/universities.

 

6-7PM- Organizations Present: Brief 3-5 minute overview by each community organization about their programs and offerings.

7-8PM- Breakout Tables: Students and families move to tables where they can visit with organizations and ask questions.
