Congratulations National Merit Scholars!

Congratulations to Washburn's four National Merit Scholarship Finalists - Travis Doyle, Ella Johnson, Brien Johnson, and Leo Hanneman. These four will continue to compete for a coveted National Merit Scholarship which will be awarded in the spring. These students have qualified based on the fact that they were among the highest scores among 1.4 million students who took the PSAT last year. 

Congratulations to six Washburn students who earned Letters of Commendation which recognizes these students for exceptional academic promise as demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the 2013 PSAT: Page Bennett, Elizabeth Blackburn, Ellen Dymit, Noah Hardman, Bridget Peterson, Robert Sherman!

The PSAT/NMSQT is a test that can qualify you for scholarships and other honors. It can also help you start thinking about and planning for college, see which academic skills you need to work on, and get ready for college entrance exams, such as the SAT.

Here is more information:

  • PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
  • It’s a test that measures the skills you’ve developed in reading, math and writing.
  • Typically, students take the test as juniors and sophomores.
  • The test is cosponsored by the College Board and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
  • PSAT/NMSQT Testing Date: Wednesday, October 29, 2014
  • Time: 8:30 am -12:30 pm
  • Cost: $17.00 paid by check (made out to Washburn High School) or cash (exact amount)
  • Registration: starts Wed. 09/10/2014,
