IB Visual Art

IB Visual Art

In IB Visual Art Courses, students will explore skills, techniques, processes and vocabulary which they will use to pursue an in-depth investigation of art.  Students will develop their artistic ideas independently but within a framework of diverse social, cultural, and historic context. Students will learn to assume responsibility for personal artistic growth by practicing critical analysis of works of art, experimenting with media, honing technical skills and synthesizing research and artistic production.  Students will study the curatorial process and practice it in their own mini-exhibition as well as a larger class art show.

At Washburn there are two different paths for students who are interested in taking IB Visual Art:

  • IB SL(Standard Level) Visual Arts, in which students may submit their work to the International Baccalaurate organization for assessment at the end of a one-year course.

All students who complete IB Visual Arts will grow as artists and creative thinkers. Not only will they build their studio skills as they create a cohesive series of art pieces, they will strengthen their skills in thinking critically, through writing and discusssing the artwork of others as well as documenting and reflecting upon their own artistic process.
