College Night Rescheduled for 4/18/19 @ 6:00pm

Attention 10th and 11th Grade Washburn Families! We have been able to reschedule College Night for this Thursday, April 18th! It will still be from 6:00-7:45pm. Come learn about the college admissions process with a range of colleges and universities. Families will still be able to attend two of the sessions focusing on specific topics. Thanks everyone for being flexible (we are aware of how short notice this is but our options were severely limited with the available nights for the remaining school year).
SCHEDULE
6:00-6:15pm Welcome and General Information (in the auditorium)
6:20-7:00pm Session 1 (classroom options)
7:05-7:45pm Session 2 (classroom options)

Note: The session for Spanish speaking families will be offered at the Opportunity Fair for our Latino families on Tuesday May 14th from 6:00-8:00pm at Washburn High School. The session for the Somali speaking families will also need to be offered on another night, more communication will go out about when that official date is determined.

AP and IB Test Volunteers Needed
Advanced Academic testing season is approaching quickly with 719 students testing for 1,132 exams during the month of May. We need YOU to help make this happen. There are multiple days and times available to fit most any schedule- and it’s easy! Sign up to voluteer here
Two important reminders: 
1. Testing will happen at multiple locations so pay close attention to where the test you are available for is being held. 2. Parents of students taking an AP exam may not proctor their child’s test.  All other AP and IB exams are open to sign up to volunteer for.

ACT Test for all 11th graders - April 24, 2019

On Wednesday, April 24, 2019 all juniors will take the ACT test. All juniors and their families should read this important information .
9th grade - regularly scheduled classes (some classroom locations might be shifted)
10th grade - regularly schedule classes (some classroom locations might be shifted)
12th grade students will not have regularly scheduled classes on Wednesday, April 24.  Washburn encourages them to use this time to solidify plans for life after graduation, including applying for scholarships or post-secondary employment, finalizing plans with post-secondary institutions of learning, or engaging in community service activities.

De-stress Your Mess Event for Students - April 25

The CityWide Student Council is hosting an event for teenagers called "De-stress Your Mess."
WHERE: Heritage School (1042 18th Ave SE, Minneapolis 55413)
WHEN: Thursday, April 25th - 5:00pm-8:00pm
WHAT: A fun evening of music, food, games, and good conversation around how to support each other.

Downtown Minneapolis
Prom - Friday, May 3, 2019

Prom will be held on Friday, May 3 from 7:00-11:00 pm at The Machine Shop located at 300 2nd St. SE in Minneapolis near St. Anthony Main. Tickets are $60 a person and will be on sale from April 18 through Thursday, May 2. Tickets will not be sold on the day of Prom, May 3.

Spring Play - Last Days of Judas Iscariot - May 8-11

The spring play, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, runs May 8-11, 2019 at 7 pm in the Washburn auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and $15 for adults. This play is rated PG-13 due to strong language.

robotics team
Washburn Robotics Team Heading to World Championships

The Washburn Robotics team (the Millerbots, #2549) won the North Star Regional robotics tournament March 27-30, 2019, and for the second consecutive year will compete in the FIRST Robotics World Championships in Detroit, Michigan April 23-27, 2019. The team formed an alliance with Edina ("The Green Machine") and Minnetonka ("Chicken Bot Pie") to win the competition.  See here for more details: https://www.thebluealliance.com/team/2549

The Millerbots also won the "Industrial Design Award", sponsored by General Motors. The award "celebrates form and function in an efficiently designed machine that effectively addresses the game challenge."
