For the 2021-2022 school year, Parent Council will meet on the 2nd Thursday each month. Meetings will be held from 6-7 pm in room 106B following the Site Council meetings. Arrangements will be made for those who would like to attend virtually. We are pleased to be partnering with the school-based clinic to provide Parent Council with guest speakers throughout the year.

4 ways to be involved with Washburn Parent Council:

  1. Volunteer for Events 
  2. Attend Parent Council Meetings
  3. Attend Executive Board/Administrative Meetings
  4. Help with Fundraising Efforts

Miller Parent Group General Information

Our Mission:

  1. Support and encourage open communication between students, parents and staff and administration
  2. Build community within the school, and enhance the relationship among the school, parents and the wider community, and encourage the community’s investment of time and energy into Washburn High School
  3. Seek out and express the voice and spirit of our school community
  4. Fundraise for Parent Council projects (i.e. Senior party, Appreciation dinners for staff, Welcome Night, Fall Festival, Landscape Committee etc.)
  5. Create a welcoming and vibrant school community

Volunteer Opportunities:

Parent council, along with other Washburn groups, provide the following volunteer opportunities:


FALL:  Teacher Appreciation Meals (first day of school breakfast, October conference dinner), Homecoming Dance
WINTER:  Winter Greens and Poinsettia Sale, Book Sale, February Conferences Teacher Appreciation Meals, Tour Guides
SPRING:  Battle of the Bands, Senior Party, Teacher Appreciation breakfast/snacks for end of school year.
ON GOING:  Miller Mart, Washburn Arts Council, Washburn Cares, Parent Ambassador at various events.

Guidelines for Meetings:

  1. Washburn Miller Parent Group will start and end on time.
  2. We have an agenda. If you have a topic you would like to add, please contact the meeting organizer one week before the meeting – they will add you to the agenda.
  3. Only one person speaks at a time.
  4. Honor the limitations of time; speak concisely.
  5. We’re all volunteers – please respect everyone and do not dominate the conversation
  6. There will be a "parking lot" for topics not on the agenda. In the event we go off topic you will be asked to hold that thought until it can be added to a future agenda or can be discussed after the meeting.
