QUADS QLUB

ADVISOR: Mr. Grul (peter.grul@mpls.k12.mn.us), Room 120D

WHAT?
Quads Qlub is a casual non-competitive group for learning how to fly drones, taking pictures & video with drones, and programming autonomous drone flight. No experience required. DJI/Ryze Tello drones will be provided, and naturally you're welcome to bring your own drone too.

WHEN?
After school (3:15 -4ish p.m.) one day a week (TBD). We also record video at some football and soccer games.

WHERE?
Start in Room 120D and then, weather permitting, move to the southside of the Washburn mall, or at a local park

If you'd like to fly outside, or fly any of our larger drones (Mavic Mini 2, Mavic 2 Pro, Matrice 100), you'll need to do two things:
-get your FAA TRUST certificate: click here to start TRUST (free and takes ~20 min)
-register yourself with the FAA as a Recreational Flyer: click here to start FAADroneZone (super easy and fast - costing only $5 for 3 years)

Suggested phone apps (all free and available for Android and iOS):

  • Tello (to fly the Tello using your phone as a controller)
  • Tello EDU (for programming autonomous flight for the Tello)
  • DroneBlocks (programming autonomous flight for the Tello and other DJI drones)
  • DJI Go (Matrice 100)
  • DJI Go 4 (Mavic 2 Pro)
  • DJI Fly (Mavic Mini)
  • Aloft Air Control, formerly KittyHawk (to get quick & easy authorization to fly in controlled airspace, which much of South Minneapolis is)
  • Avia Weather (aviation weather reports)
