MPS Announces Distance Learning

Governor Walz has issued guidelines for when/how schools come back this fall, and Superintendet Graff has shared that MPS will start with Distance Learning. The distance learning format will be VERY different this fall than it was this spring. See this video for more info.

Washburn Demands Justice - A Statement from WHS Student Council

The Washburn Student Council has published a statement about justice. Please click the title to see the full statement.

"We not only demand that community leaders address social injustices through systemic changes in the areas of police reform, voting rights & access, and economic disparities in our city, but we call on our whole school community do the following:

  • Commit to practicing anti-racism work at school and in our own personal lives;

  • Acknowledge and address the systematic problems in our own school system that create divisions and separations between white students and students of color;

  • Listen to and uplift the voices of students of color."

Summer Reading 2020

We are excited to announce the Washburn Reads Summer Reading Program! Every incoming Washburn student is expected to read at least one book over the summer. Upon their return to school, students will be asked to write an essay and/or engage in discussion about the required reading. Some books are available as PDFs, ebooks or audiobooks.

Summer Homework for Advanced Courses

Yearbook distributuion

Over 600 yearbooks were handed out through a drive-thru distributuion on June 25 and 26. If you ordered a yearbook but did not pick it up, you can get it when school starts in the fall. Have a great summer!

For the Class of 2020: how to migrate your MPS Google Account

For the Class of 2020: Your MPS Google account will be active until October 1, 2020.  After that time you will lose access to both the email account and the documents in your drive. It is recommended that you create a personal Google account and transfer email and documents that you wish to keep. Here are the steps to transfer email and documents from your school Google account to a personal Google account. Here is a video from Ben Anderson and Nathaniel Mersy on how to do the transfer.

IB Art Exhibition

IB Art students have created an online art exhibit to showcase some of their work from this year. It is arranged by class and is alphabetical by last name within each class. Virtual Senior Recognition Night -- 5/28/20

The annual Senior Scholarship and Awards Recognition Event will be held virtually on Thursday, May 28th @ 6:00pm. At this event, will be announcing the winners of Washburn Scholarships and recognizing Seniors who have earned other private or institutional scholarships as well as other honors. Drone racing team wins MN State AA bracket, advances to AAA
Washburn 10th grade rookie drone racers Mac “Big Mac” Hearn and Graham “FiZyxZ” Adleman won the AA teams bracket at the MN State High School Drone Racing Championship on Sunday, 17 May. Nora Bartlett, sophomore, 1st chair clarinet in our Wind Ensemble, auditioned and was accepted into the Minnesota All State Band 2020-21!  Congratulations Nora. We are proud of you!

Tech Tricks for Distance Learning & Beyond

Washburn seniors Nathaniel Mersy and Ben Anderson have created a YouTube Channel called WHS Tech Tricks with tech trick tutorials for students to help Millers navigate distance learning. This channel is an IB Diploma CAS Project, and just one example of the fabulous work our Millers do as part of the IB Diploma Program. Check it out!

Registration for Incoming 9th graders

Thank you to all the 8th graders who attended our virtual registration nights on 4/16 and 4/23 and completed your course selections online.  Most of our incoming Millers are now registered.
