Senior working to recycle granola bar wrappers

Clif bar image

"My name is Skylar Tupper, and I am a senior this year at Washburn. I have joined a brigade called Terracycle that collects granola bar wrappers to be recycled. Terracycle is both a recycling and up-cycling organization that takes the bar wrappers and repurposes the material into new innovative products.

"Before shipping the wrappers to the organization, you must reach five pounds. So I am working on putting a box with every sports team to collect any bar wrappers or Clif Bar products they eat before or after practice. I would collect all of the wrappers at the end of the season. There are only a few guidelines, which I would put on the box that would go to your practice. The Energy Wrapper Brigade is sponsored by Clif Bar, so any Clif Bar product is able to be put in the box.

"Any foil-lined energy bar or granola bar wrapper can be recycled as well. Examples: Luna Bars, Kids Clif, pouches from Clif, Shot Bloks, Builder Bars, Nature Valley bars, and Lara bars. I would also like to put a box in the lunchroom for students to recycle their bar wrappers during lunch time. Thank you!"
