Summer Reading 2020

We are excited to announce the Washburn Reads Summer Reading Program! Every incoming Washburn student is expected to read at least one book over the summer. Upon their return to school, students will be asked to write an essay and/or engage in discussion about the required reading. Some books are available as PDFs, ebooks or audiobooks

Fostering a love of reading and a healthy habit of reading are our main objectives. Research shows that all students benefit from summer reading, especially those who are reluctant readers. Summer reading prevents the summer slide, or the regression/loss of academic skills over the course of the summer. Although only one book is required for each grade, each has a list of optional readings that students are encouraged to read as well.

Here is a link to summer events through Hennepin County Libraries as well - including a poetry workshop with author Zetta Elliott and a Somali Cultural Festival. Check it out!
