For Seniors

Seniors, send your senior picture, senior quotes and baby pictures to wahian@mpsedu.org by December 18, 2020 (new deadline.) Send each item in a separate email with the first and last name of the senior in the subject line along with what is in the email. Example Subject Line: Mitchell Krause Baby Picture

Senior photos should be portrait orientation (vertically) at a minimum of 300 dpi (should be around 1 meg sized file). Send the largest size you can under 20 MB. Send head shots or waist-up shots only. Full body photos will cropped above the waist for conformity. Black and white photos are acceptable. Color photos are preferred. Senior photos must be recognizable. No props.

Yearbook Senior quotes should be: 20 words or less, positive, encouraging, celebratory, and related to school/graduation/success. No violence, no put-downs, no song lyrics from songs with explicit lyrics.

Baby/childhood photos
Many people have a physical photo as a baby/childhood. These students/parents have been taking a picture with their phones and sending them in. This works well.
A couple of tips are:

  • Remove the photo from glass or plastic frames to reduce reflection.
  • Put tape behind the photo so it lays flat on a counter.
  • Take the photo in a well lit area, but make sure there is not a reflection in the photo from a light from above.

For Students in Grades 9-11

Since we are not having picture day this year, we are asking all students in grades 9-12 to submit a photo for the yearbook. Students in grades 9-12 should send photos to wahian@mpsedu.org by December 18, 2020 (new deadline.)

Tips for taking good yearbook portrait photos
  • Head shots only (no full body shots and no props)
  • Take photo vertically (not horizontally)
  • Lighting is better outside better than inside
  • Sunset is an ideal time for soft warm lighting
  • Minor editing allowed (no filters or flower crowns)
  • Send highest resolution you can (don’t send screen shots)

We MUST have a media release to print student photos in the yearbook - it is a district policy. This form is continuous, and so if you have turned in this form in the past you do not need to turn it in again.

Grace Ulferts is the yearbook editor and Rosalind Foppe is the assistant editor for the 2020-2021 yearbook.
